Community meeting "Employment Opportunities in Belisce" was held on 28 July 2016 in the City Hall in Belisce.
Guests of the meeting were Ms. Antonija Andrasek Baric, Head of the Department of Social Services City of Belisce, Ms. Lidija Vidosic, the head of the Croatian Employment Service, Valpovo office and Mr. Branko Petrovic, President of the Council of Roma national minority for Osijek-Baranja County.
Head of the Department of Social Services of the City of Belisce, Ms. Andrasek Baric, said that the City has excellent cooperation with the Roma minority and that they are jointly carrying out certain projects. Currently is undergoing urbanization of Roma settlements in Bistrinci (public lighting, drainage, landscaping of the road) and the construction of the community house is at the stage of completion. In cooperation with the Croatian Employment Service, the City encourages employment through public works measures which should soon begin. In addition, the City encourages employment through subsidies to private businesses if they employ a new person.
Ms. Vidosevic, the head of the Croatian Employment Service (CES), Valpovo office, followed up on previous exposure referring to the other measures implemented by the CES which encourage employment. She mentioned the incentive measures provided to employers by the CES in hiring new people and a measure of employment that unemployed persons who open craft can use. She also noted that since autumn, the CES will begin a program of free education for simple occupations - locksmith, tailor, welder, but in order for a person to use this program he/she must have completed primary school. Ms. Vidosevic said that it is expected that public works will start soon and that 46 people will be employed through them.
Mr. Petrovic, President of the Council for Roma national minority from Osijek-Baranja County, said that the Roma are in a difficult situation and cannot find work because they do not have the qualifications for certain jobs. Because of this, most of the Roma rely on a measure of public works as an employment opportunity, but this measure does not last for a long time (3 to 6 months) and cannot be covered by all those interested in taking the said measure. He also stressed that Roma representatives must suggest a number of members of their community who will work through public works which is an additional problem in interpersonal relationships within the community because the need for employment is large and there are only few business offers. In his speech he referred to the efforts made by the Council in order to encourage young people to attend further education.
Community meeting was attended by 44 residents who were active in asking questions and seeking advices from guests.
The event was also attended by the local media who informed the public about the event.
It was organised within the project "Legal inclusion and sustainable integration of Roma in Croatia", which is financed by the European Union from the program IPA 2012 "Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to ensure the effective implementation of EU standards in the realization of human rights" and co-financed by the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs.
