On 29 June 2015 the initial meeting of the establishment of local expert platform in Slavonski Brod was held. Its members are representatives of the civil society organizations (CSOs), local government and public institutions of the City Slavonski Brod.
The initial meeting was held in the premises of the Association of Persons with Disabilities Slavonski Brod "Loco-Moto". The meeting was attended by Natasa Kovacevic and Marina Baric-Gacic (members of the project team IPA 2011 "Civil Society for Accountable Governance" from Slavonski Brod), and members of the newly established local expert group: Sanja Zutinic, representative of Association for Creative Development of Children and Youth “Vivak”; Cedo Todorovic, a representative of the Roma Centre for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights; Ana Vidak, a representative of the Association for the Improvement of Mental Health "Vrapcici"; Gordana Miskovic and Vanja Krnic, representatives of the Association of Persons with Disabilities Slavonski Brod "Loco-Moto"; Slavica Niksic and Martina Manduric, representatives of the Centre for Social Welfare; Kata Jira, a representative of the Department of Social Services of the City Slavonski Brod and Anita Krnjic Derek, a representative of the Development Agency of the City Slavonski Brod.
After an introduction ofthe members of the local expert group and their previous work related to the target groups, the project coordinator briefly presented the project itself, its activities, objectives and expected results. Also, she informed participants about the aim and activities of the local expert team and announced the upcoming motivational meetings in which the participants expressed their willingness to participate.
Additionally, members shared their positive experiences and new knowledge gained from the five-day training with EU experts in Zagreb named "Monitoring of the Policies Related to Good Governance and Anti-discrimination". Project coordinator thoroughly presented the monitoring forms created during the training, and special attention was paid to the inclusion of monitoring of discrimination and good governance during its preparation.
Furthermore, they shared the problems of discrimination in employment that Roma people and people with disabilities are facing, and as well about other cases of discrimination that were noted in these target groups. Participants carefully contemplated suggested monitoring forms and provided constructive proposals. They concluded that the monitoring forms will be adjusted to the needs of target groups in Slavonski Brod due to posted indicators and research methods.
Members think that results will be achieved with an establishment of productive inter-sectoral cooperation and regular implementation of activities by local expert teams. Mapping of Action Plan will also result in decreasing of discrimination cases concerning the target groups and good governance concerning local government bodies and the public institutions.
