On 19 December 2016, a preparatory meeting for the analysis of the implementation of the Constitutional Law on the Rights of National Minorities in Brod-Posavina County was held at the Great Hall of the Brod-Posavina County.
The meeting was attended by the presidents and deputies of Serbian and Roma Councils of national minorities from Brod-Posavina County, presidents and deputies of Councils of Roma and Serbian minorities from the city of Slavonski Brod and the city of Nova Gradiska, presidents of municipal councils of Serbian national minority from Okucani and Stara Gradiska and elected representatives of Albanian and Ukrainian national minority in Brod-Posavina County and Slavonski Brod. In addition to members of national minorities, the meeting was attended by members of the Committee for Human Rights and National Minorities of Brod-Posavina County.
The meeting was moderated by professor Lauc, the expert on constitutional law, who briefly presented the legal regulations concerning the rights of national minorities. In his presentation, he referred to the report of the Ombudsman and report of the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe on the situation of national minorities in Croatia. All the participants agreed that although the legislation regarding national minorities was correct, the problems appear when it comes to implementing it in practice. It was agreed that all the participants will provide information on violations of the rights of national minorities they represent.
Preparatory meeting for the analysis of the implementation of the Constitutional Law on the Rights of National Minorities in Brod-Posavina County was organized by ILC in collaboration with project partners - HILS from Osijek, Brod-Posavina County and the Network of Roma associations in Croatia within the project "Legal inclusion and sustainable integration of Roma in Croatia", which is financed by the European Union program IPA 2012 "Strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to ensure the effective implementation of EU standards in the realization of human rights" and co-financed by the Office for CSOs, Government of Republic of Croatia.
